Ogden may get hotel-condo tower, water park
January 24th, 2008 - Category: Condo, Hotel, Real EstateA 12-to-14-story hotel and condo tower, as well as a multimillion-dollar water park, could be coming to downtown Ogden, the City Council was told Tuesday night.
Midtown Development of Orem wants to buy nearly 2 acres on a prime corner of the city-owned Junction mall for the hotel-condo tower. It would be linked across Washington Boulevard to a water resort.
A water resort is part amusement park and part hotel, with slides, waves and other water features. Wave Development, Midtown’s partner, has completed 11 at hotels around the country.
Larry Myler, president of Midtown, said his company likes to build in “turnaround” cities like Ogden.
The ground floor would have retail shops and service businesses, and Myler predicted 75 percent of the rooms would be hotel rooms. Twenty-five percent would be condos for permanent or part-time residents. A rooftop restaurant is possible, he said.
And if an urban gondola is ever built from downtown to the foothills, Midtown Village would provide the only gondola stop within The Junction, according to an agreement Midtown hopes the council will approve next month.
