MotorCity Casino Hotel opens this afternoon
November 29th, 2007 - Category: HotelIn a reasonably low-key ceremony at 3 p.m. today, MotorCity Casino and local government officials will officially open the casino’s new 400-room luxury hotel.
The hotel is part of the casino’s permanent facility, being built on and around their existing complex at Grand River and the Lodge. The high rollers area and poker room were renovated and re-opened this summer.
Casino owner Marian Ilitch and Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick are expected to be among the dignitaries present for the ribbon-cutting. The first guests to check in are expected to be a couple who chose to have their wedding at the new hotel.
The overall renovating and buliding project is costing $300 million, and is expected to be complete by the end of March. The hotel itself is housed in a 17-story tower wrapped with nearly 4,800 programmable LED tubes, which have been blinking, racing and
