Many real estate developers on LDA ‘hit list’

THE Sahara India Housing Limited (SIHL), which was served notice earlier this week for violating construction norms, is not the only one to have come under the LDA scanner for the offence. The “new team” of Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has served notices on as many as 15 real estate developers of Lucknow and Delhi.

Sahara was served the notice for constructing a building inside the Sahara Sheher complex without getting its layout plan sanctioned from the LDA.

“In the last few days, we have served notices on several private builders, who have taken up various developmental projects in the city, for violation of the construction norms. Various ‘prominent builders’ are also on our hit list,” said LDA secretary Bhupendra Singh, who preferred not to name the builders who have been booked.

The real estate developers to whom LDA has issued notices are involved in various important developmental projects. “These builders have taken up major projects of group housing schemes, commercial complexes and other establishments in the city, mostly during the regime of the previous government,” said a senior LDA official. “Two group housing schemes under construction in Gomti Nagar, two group housing apartments in Nishatganj and several commercial complexes on Faizabad Road are standing in violation of the construction norms,” pointed out the official.

The LDA authorities said they will continue with the exercise of serving notices on erring builders, “irrespective of their stature”.

“Whether it is Sahara Housing or any other real estate developers, if construction norms have been violated, we will be taking action against the erring developer,” said Singh.

The LDA, in assistance with the district administration, is set to launch a campaign against the private builders who have violated the construction norms. “The officials will not only be reviewing the ongoing construction projects but also the major developmental activities undertaken in the past,” said the LDA secretary.

The officials of LDA and the district administration will also jointly conduct a survey of all important buildings and establishments in the city to find out whether the set-ups have parking facility, fire-safety norms, electrical safety and other facilities which are mandatory as per the norms.

‘Constructions in Sahara Sheher as per Master Plan’
THE Sahara group said on Friday all constructions at Sahara Shaher are “in accordance” with the Master Plan 2021, and that the “layout plan prepared after a joint inspection with LDA officers has been pending with the Authority since November 2006″. “The matter is sub judice and the court has issued a stay order in this matter,” said Abhijit Sarkar, head, Corporate Communications, Sahara India Pariwar. LDA secretary Bhupendra Singh said the case pertaining to the illegal constructions going inside Sahara Seher is being heard in the LDA’s quasi-judicial court. During the quasi-judicial proceedings on Friday, Singh said, a team of officials from Sahara sought a few days’ time to respond to the notices served on them. “We have agreed to it, though no date has been given,” Bhupendra Singh said.
