Judge rules Botetourt County retirement community not exempt from real estate taxes

A judge ruled today that The Glebe and its owner, Virginia Baptist Homes, are not exempt from county real estate taxes. In his ruling, Judge Michael Irvine wrote that The Glebe’s operations were neither benevolent nor exclusively religious. Therefore, the property could not be tax-exempt.
Botetourt County says The Glebe’s tax bill could be more than $200,000.
