Tourists robbed in their downtown hotel room
April 16th, 2007 - Category: HotelPolice were hoping that images caught on security cameras would lead them to a brazen bandit who followed a family of three tourists to their downtown Manhattan hotel and robbed them of jewelry and other possessions worth thousands of dollars.
Detective Madelyne Galindo said Sunday that no new information had turned up in the incident that occurred Friday evening as the family, visiting from Atlanta, returned to the Millennium Hotel.
Police said the group, an 8-year-old girl and her parents, were joined in the elevator by the suspect, who rode with them to the 40th floor. There, he drew a silver pistol and forced his way into their room, where he handcuffed the adults and bound the girl with duct tape before stealing cash, an emerald ring, two laptops and other items.
He also took ATM cards and forced the parents to reveal their pin numbers. Police said he later withdrew $700 from one account.
The daughter managed to free herself from the duct tape after half an hour and alerted security officers.
Police did not identify the victims.
