The Jordan Valley Marriott Resort & Spa helps local young women to better their lives
April 16th, 2007 - Category: Real Estate, ResortIn its endeavor to continually help its community, the Jordan Valley Marriott Resort & Spa employs more than 30% of its employees from the local village of Sweimeh, located near the Resort. Several young women from Sweimeh have chosen to work for the resort and have excelled in their different jobs.
One of these young women is Basma Jahran. She started with the Jordan Valley Marriott as Spa Attendant in September 2002; she later got transferred to Housekeeping in the capacity of room attendant. She performed such a remarkable job that she was nominated as Associate of the Month for June 2006 and was chosen the Associate of Year 2006.
Basma is extremely efficient and serious at her work. She is friendly, has a beautiful smile, the right attitude, goes the extra mile with the guests and is popular among her colleagues. In addition, during these past years, Basma has also passed level A in English language and received the general secondary certification.
Thuraya Jahran also started with the company as Spa Attendant in September 2002. She was nominated as front of the house Associate of the Month for June 2005 because of her hard work and dedication. Thuraya attended English language basic level A and passed the general secondary certification. She was trained in the Spa and got promoted to a beautician in February 2007. Thuraya said, “I chose to work in Marriott to learn and have a career. I will not leave work if I get married unless my husband insists.”
Hanan Abu Zaitoun started with the company as Spa attendant in November 2002. She finished English language basic 0 & 1 and received the best scores among her colleagues. Hanan also received the general secondary certification. She is now interested in getting transferred to the Security Department in the capacity of security officer. Hanan says, “I chose to work in Marriott because it is fun working with different nationalities”. She added, “The best thing I like about working in this hotel is the diversity in nationalities and the exposure that I receive.”
Maqboula Jahran started with the company as Hostess in Mosaico in October 2005. She was promoted to head hostess in August 2006 because of her efficiency, her great smile and going the extra mile for guests. Maqboula also passed level 1 English course. She comments, “I chose to work in this hotel to practice my English with guests”. She adds, “The best thing I learned from working here is discipline.”
“We are delighted to have these young women from Sweimeh working in our resort, as they have proven to be an incredible asset to the property”, said Lama Al-Masri, the Director of Human Resources at the Jordan Valley Marriott Resort & Spa. She added, “We offer them English classes to encourage them to be better prepared to move on in their careers with Marriott and in the hospitality business. This also helps them develop their language skills so that they are ready for promotions and better positions. ”
