Cleanup Crews Find Thousands Of Dollars At Sands Casino Hotel
April 6th, 2007 - Category: HotelCrews cleaning up the former Sands Casino Hotel found more than $17,000 that fell under or around slot machines over the past 30 years.
The casino in Atlantic City was closed last November and will be torn down later this year to make way for a new gambling hall.
So when workers began removing the two-thousand,350 slot machines for use at other casinos owned by the Sands’ parent company, they expected to find some stray cash.
But they never expected to recoup 17,193.34 , an amount that includes coins, casino tokens and even a $100 bill.
The money belongs to Pinnacle Entertainment, the Las Vegas company that bought the Sands last year.
But New Jersey gets eight percent of the money in taxes — the same as it would had the money been won from gamblers.
