February 7th, 2007 - Category: Real Estate

Jefferies & Company, Inc., the principal operating subsidiary of Jefferies Group, Inc., announced the hiring of Anindya Chatterjee as a Managing Director and Senior Equity Research Analyst covering growing companies in India, China and Southeast Asia. Mr. Chatterjee has 12 years of experience as an analyst, strategist and consultant focused on emerging markets and cross-border business development initiatives.

The hiring of Mr. Chatterjee extends Jefferies’ global research footprint and, for coverage in Asia, follows on the mid-2006 hiring of Tokyo-based Senior Analyst, David M. Rubenstein. Mr. Rubenstein has over 10 years of analyst experience and covers Japanese securities. The continued expansion of the Jefferies platform underlines the Firm’s global approach to serving growing companies and their investors in a range of focus areas.

“Anindya Chatterjee’s extensive firsthand experience, macro analytical approach and exposure to the Indian, Chinese and South East Asian markets nicely complement Jefferies’ current research offering,” commented Steven R. Black, Director of Equity Research at Jefferies. “We are deeply committed to bringing new and innovative investment ideas to our clients.”

“I have been impressed by Jefferies’ rising reputation and capabilities in and outside the US, as well as the firm’s commitment to growing companies and their investors around the globe,” said Mr. Chatterjee. “The opportunity in the burgeoning Indian, Chinese and South East Asian markets is unparalleled, and I am excited to bring my perspective and insight to Jefferies’ clients.”

Jefferies’ global presence began with the establishment of UK-based Jefferies International Limited in 1985. The firm is an active advisor and underwriter for European and Asian-based companies and trader of European and Asian securities. Jefferies is a member of the London Stock Exchange (LSE), Deutsche Boerse (Xetra), Euronext, Oslo Bors, Dubai International Financial Exchange (DIFX), Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) and JASDAQ, and has Nominated Adviser (NOMAD) status on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) of the LSE.

In addition to the Firm’s global initiatives, Jefferies’ broad equity research effort has received key industry accolades, ranking second in The Wall Street Journal “Best on the Street” 2005 Analysts Survey with a total of eight awards. The Firm was also among the Top 10 most award-winning brokers as ranked by StarMine in 2004, with eight analyst honors. In total, Jefferies and its affiliates now have more than 120 research professionals in the US, Europe and Asia covering over 1,300 companies in the areas of aerospace and defense, business, consumer, financial and IT services, energy, gaming, healthcare, industrial, media and entertainment, shipping, technology, and telecommunications.

Prior to joining Jefferies, Mr. Chatterjee was a Strategist and Economist focused on Non-Japan Asia for Bear Stearns & Company in Asia. He held similar positions at IDEA INC. in New York and NatWest Markets in Singapore as Emerging Markets Strategist and Regional Economist and Equity Strategist, respectively. He was Head of Foreign Exchange and Fixed Income Research at ANZ Investment Bank in India, and held research positions at HSBC Securities and Smith New Court Securities.

Mr. Chatterjee is based in Jefferies’ New York headquarters office.
