February 4th, 2007 - Category: Hotel

After a $3 million transformation, the Old Nimitz Hotel will reopen as the Admiral Nimitz Museum on Feb. 25, the 122nd anniversary of Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz’s birthday.

Rededication ceremonies are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on the front portico of the museum at 340 E. Main St. in Fredericksburg.

The Admiral Nimitz Museum is part of the National Museum of the Pacific War’s complex, which also includes the George Bush Gallery, the Plaza of Presidents, the Veteran’s Walk of Honor and Memorial Wall, the Japanese Garden of Peace, the Pacific Combat Zone and the Center for Pacific War Studies.

This six-acre complex is the only institution in the continental U.S. dedicated solely to telling the story of the Pacific Theater battles of World War II. The 34,000-square-foot exhibit displays U.S. Allied and Japanese aircrafts, tanks, guns and other artifacts.
