Ritz-Carlton hotel site of home detention

For his attempt to illegally videotape singer Michael Jackson, Jeffrey Borer is being detained in an unusual locale — Los Angeles’ Ritz-Carlton hotel.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Borer, who was sentenced last October for his role in a illegal 2003 videotape of Jackson, had been ordered to undergo home detention at the lavish hotel.

His attorney, Lloyd Kirschbaum, said that his client is living at the extravagant hotel as part of his sentence due to the fact that his home in the nearby Marina del Rey community is infested with mold.

While Borer is paying for his stay at the hotel, the federal prosecutor assigned to his case called the situation outrageous and very out of the ordinary for the circumstances.

“When someone is sentenced to electronic monitoring, normally the presumption is he’s not going to be holed up in a four-star hotel,” Daniel N. Shallman said.

The newspaper said that until work on his home is finished, Borer will have endure the rest of his sentence near the hotel’s harbor-side pool, in its gift shop stocked with designer items or at its on-site spa.
