Adding to the glitter during Los Angeles’s awards season, culminating with the Academy Awards Feb. 25, is a host of renovated and new hotels vying for attention.

Most visible of all is the transformation of the cylindrical West Side icon familiar to everyone who has driven into L.A. on the San Diego Freeway for the past 35 years. After a six-month renovation, the old Holiday Inn has been replaced by Joie de Vivre’s first Southern California property, Hotel Angeleno. In addition to the sleek, modern interiors and perhaps the city’s best panoramic views, the exterior was freshened up with lush landscaping and a 299-foot glass wall anchoring a contemporary light display. The Beverly Hilton (www.beverlyhilton.com) completed a renovation in November, including all guest rooms, public areas and meeting space. Brand new is the 270-room Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village (www.fourseasons/westlakevillage.com), surrounded by 9 acres of exotic landscaping and a Chinese Pagoda.
