Macau to have a Hard Rock Hotel Casino
January 24th, 2007 - Category: Hotel, Real EstateMelco PBL Entertainment said Tuesday it had agreed with Hard Rock International to build a Hard Rock Hotel Casino in the City of Dreams, which is currently being built in Macau.
According to a statement from the companies, the City of Dreams complex, which is to open in two phases, includes four hotels (the Hard Rock Hotel, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency and Crown Towers) and the US company’s unit will have 380 rooms and other facilities that are common to the group as well as a casino in the first complex of its kind for Hard Rock in Asia.
Currently the Melco PBL consortium runs six slot machine rooms and is also building the Crown hotel/casino on Taipa island, in which it is investing US$512 million and the City of Dreams complex – which includes an underwater casino – between the islands of Taipa and Coloane, at a total investment of US$2.1 billion.
The Melco/PBL consortium was formerly part of the Stanley Ho empire but was given independence to run its own operations after it was approved to buy, for US$900 million, the gaming and gambling sub-concession held by Steve Wynn of Wynn Resorts.
Hard Rock International operated hotels/casinos in London, Las Vegas, Hollywood and Tampa, in Florida, with one in Biloxi, Mississippi due to open in the Summer.
