Condo offers old charm with modern renovations
January 23rd, 2007 - Category: Condo, Real EstateBuyers looking for newly renovated two-bedroom units in the Arboretum section of Roslindale scooped up all three condos at 19 Sheffield Road earlier this winter. Luckily for those still searching for the right new home, the sale of the second-floor condo fell through. The unit is currently back on the market for $324,000.
The brown triple-decker fits right in with the other well-kept, large homes on the street, about a mile from Roslindale Village.
Recently gutted and renovated, the unit takes advantage of its 1,207 square feet of living space by locating all of its rooms off a center foyer. Larger than a typical entryway, this area could be used for a sitting room, a large receiving area, or it could become a modified office or library.
The unit’s other rooms are all located off this foyer, starting with a sunny dining room with a unique stained glass window and built-in leaded glass china cabinet common to homes built in the early 1900s.
While the unit has been completely renovated, ornate woodwork, including pillars and crown molding, have been left intact to preserve some of the 1910 home’s original charm.
The kitchen is brand new and includes stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher, recessed lighting and cherry cabinets. A back door off the kitchen leads to the back deck and also down stairs to the backyard, as well as an 8-by-8-foot storage area in the basement. One off-street parking space is also deeded to the unit.
A small nook with new stone tile flooring serves as a laundry room off the kitchen. It allows space for a stacked washer and dryer, as well as potential shelving to hold cleaners and detergent. The unit’s bathroom has a similar natural stone tile flooring, which continues up the walls for a unique look.
The condo’s two bedrooms are similar in size and natural light, and the one in the rear of the unit has a walk-in closet, complete with a window of its own. Large closets are rare in older homes, but even the second bedroom has adequate storage space.
The living room sits opposite the dining room at the front of the unit and contains hardwood floors which run throughout the unit.
In addition to the space inside the condo’s walls, the second-floor unit is also deeded truly private front and back decks. Because of its second-floor location, the owner will benefit by having both decks being sheltered by the deck above, and also not being a walkway for residents of the other two units.
The condo fee is $150, and the unit is heated with hot water radiators and hot water by natural gas.
