Massive new hotel to get green light

Slough Borough Council officers have recommended that the proposal to build a nine-storey hotel, opposite Slough railway station, should be given the green light.
Councillors were due to approve the hotel at the planning meeting yesterday (Thursday).
The new hotel, an Express by Holiday Inn brand, will boast 142 air-conditioned bedrooms, four meeting rooms, a public lounge/breakfast room, and a 30-space car park.
Developers Pearl Hotels are scheduled to begin construction next month.
Cllr Dexter Smith, commissioner for planning and transport, said: “I think that Slough, as a modern business centre, needs good quality hotel accommodation.
“And I look forward to this type of continued investment growing in the borough.
“We are trying to build on last year’s success when the Government designated Slough as a regional transport hub.
“This means people from inside and outside the borough are being encouraged to use public transport more - whether to get around town, go to the airport, enter the capital or visit a neighbouring town. This hotel will be a catalyst for this growth.”
The hotel is designed by Morrison Design Ltd, of Derby, whose other projects include the £7 million Express by Holiday Inn in Croydon. This is a ten-storey, 156-bedroom conference hotel with a roof-top conference centre, which was completed in April 2004.
